My car just went badong and what now to replace it with
Discussion
WE bought the citroen c5 2008 auto diesel 8 yrs ago to tow a caravan around the EU and UK and do some longish trips everynownthen. Those days have gone and its now used just to tow a large trailer with around a ton of wood for delivery etc. We have the use of a 2003 civic as a "runaround". BUT I will still need to replace the c5 with something that can pull around 2 ton reasonably easy as its hilly here.
I have around 5k to spend.
Whatdoyoureckon?
(I think the gearbox is f
ked hence the question. To repair it might cost more than the cars worth)
I will probably do no more than 2000 miles a year max. I prefer an auto diesel and was thinking of the 1.9 or 2.0 Octavia estate.

I like the newer mondeos, we nearly bought one instead of the C5 but wife said she thought it was too big, then we found out the c5 was the same size. I havent thought about the focus....interesting. I'm guessing a 1.6l engine wont have enough beef, (both focus/octavia). On the towing capacity, it pulled our 1500kg caravan fine. In hindsight I think the trailer and wood will be a max of 1.5 ton

A 2.5T Mondeo in Titanium X Sport trim is a good shout:On the towing capacity, it pulled our 1500kg caravan fine. In hindsight I think the trailer and wood will be a max of 1.5 ton

Or the diesel version:

I'd say the 2.7d Jaguar XF is a very worthy contender:
