Need to buy the (STBX) wife a car

So erm as per title. V8 is going. She said she drove what she describes as a 'Golf' rental, and said it was nice. I guess this was the Mk7 facelift.
I'm not sure which engine this would have been but she said she was happy with the performance.
This is not on the menu as I don't see any reason to spend more than £3,000 probably £2,000 would be better.
Er, otherwise, I think small rims would be a good idea (she won't shop around for a good deal on tyres), and hence also brake discs, etc.
Not probably going to get too much TLC so something that's not temperamental/inclined to explode? Insurance isn't much of an issue,the V8 is about £250, but the tax is £50/month so that's no good. And erm only about 3500 miles a year so doesn't want to be a diesel. Though even with 3500 miles, at 17.5mpg or whatever you can still save a few hundred a year.
Don't need too much legroom is too necessary as son is off to uni and anyway he's only 5'8 or something and daughter won't necessarily be taller than that.
I don't really care because I'm not driving it, but STBX definitely seems to prefer something small and sporty over something big and bargeish. OTOH I had a quick look on Autotrader and a 6 year old 100bhp petrol Seat Leon is £4500, which seems a bit like silly money to me.
Any thoughts?

This was my thought (after a quick Google of what it meant). She is an adult and can make her own decisions, look after her own transport and pay her own bills if she really is stbx. If not and I have misunderstood, then 3k is a low budget for anything 'Golf like' that isn't 15 years old. You could probably find a Vauxhall Astra in budget though.

It's not so much that I'm buying her a car but more that I'm flogging the old one. And if I leave her with no car then she'll probably buy something stupid. It just seems like the best way to leave something 'in place', rather than have her p*** all the money up the wall and then come back to me in a year or two and say she needs more money for our daughter (who is now 12). Cos I'm literally not driving the thing the only things that really matter is that it doesn't cost too much to run and buy (because why) and it doesn't break down (because she has no clue).

not that bothered about safety tbh, I mean in an ideal world you probably have an XC90 or something but I don't think theres anything really truly unsafe out there. Plus they don't do many miles at all, and I live in Indonesia where I'm sure the vehicles are all death traps compared to anything in the UK
