How hard would you chase?
Discussion
Wondering what you would do in this situation.
A few weeks ago I arranged to purchase a car from a main dealer, the salesman was spot on and helpful throughout. Unfortunately on the day of collection the car had an issue and I was refunded. The salesman agreed to get in contact with me when the car was back ready for sale.
Fast forward to earlier on this week and I emailed the salesman for an update. Turns out the car was back in and ready to go, we agreed the same deal as before and he went off to check with his manager if it was ok. I got a call back shortly after and was told someone had put a deposit on the car and were due to view that day, he said however I would be called and told if the buyer took the car or not - if not then the car was mine.
That was a few days ago and I’m still waiting on any word from the salesman. The advert is still live on Autotrader & their website but the price is now a few hundred more than it was previous - I assume this is to cover the recent work.
This car is in the exact spec I’m looking for and is priced lower than my budget, which is the only reason why I’m still considering it. Chasing a salesman like this though really hacks me off.
What would you do? Get back on the salesman’s case on Monday or just say ‘f
k it’ and move on to the next one?

I’d say you should call and speak to the sales manager, I think if someone had chased me a couple of times and not bought a car, he’d want to know why/he’d be the one I would have telling the customer why he can’t buy it.

I agree it’s a weird situation. They’ve had the car in for a couple of months too so I can’t see why they aren’t biting my hand off at 97% of the asking price - especially in January.I’d say you should call and speak to the sales manager, I think if someone had chased me a couple of times and not bought a car, he’d want to know why/he’d be the one I would have telling the customer why he can’t buy it.
The only thing I can think of is that they forgot to update the asking price after carrying out the work - so instead of the salesman telling me that they have made a mistake - he has instead made up a story of someone else paying a deposit on the car to put me off.
I’ll ask to speak to the manager on Monday. Never thought it would be so difficult to buy a car!
