Looking for a daily

what would people recommend sub 3k, must be diesel and a decent size as I spend alot of time on the motorway

I have a Megane 225 track/weekend car so I just want something cheap to run and comfy really

I've had 2 MK3 Mondeos previously so keen to avoid them again

Is the MK4 Mondeo my best option?

Thanks

Was in similar dilemma, handed over my daily E91 to my wife for her duties...

So, I got myself a 1.9 ttid Saab 2011 for £3k (100k, full history) for the 20k annual motorway commute..the BEST motorway car I have ever driven! Yes little unrefined, but very pleasant.

Stupid amount of car for the money, I'm sure others will agree, I love it anyway.

Reliable? Only time will tell, but it won't be any more so compared to any other modern diesel, 1.9 GM/Fiat lump in these are well proven, and £30 tax! smile

I'd say a CLK270 is a good pick they're good on the motorway (I had one) you'll see a real world 37-42mpg without a map, with a Map as well as a K&N replacement filter you'll see a real world 41-48mpg.

You can get a newer 220 Sport these benefit from the AMG kit & the Orthopedic seats which is a bonus for motorway work.

Thanks all for the recommendations, I was pretty convinced I was going to buy an MK4 Mondeo.

Then one day last week one of my neighbours had their 2008 VW Jetta outside with for sale stickers in the windows and his mobile number. Dropped him a text and ended up buying it, its a slightly brave pill as its the BXE 1.9 PD engine with DSG, 109k miles.

The service history and invoices with the car are like nothing I have really seen for a car at the value. The folder of invoices that came with it is about 4 inches thick! and my neighbour had owned it for last 5 years.

I have only driven it about 50 feet home, although the the neighbour did take me out for a decent test drive before I bought it.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a good purchase!

The 1.9 is bullet proof, the gearbox only time will tell.

Your neighbour wouldn't have sold it to you if he wasn't confident in the car.

Exactly what I was going to say. Terrific engine, but be very wary of that gearbox!
