17 Year old German Shed...

Finally getting rid of my PCP Corsa in the coming months after 2 years of easy but boring ownership. After well over a year of looking at performance cars for about 10k, my 20k miles a year is going to be insane on fuel and just not worth it. I've decided to buy something cheap and run it for a couple years and save for a weekend car. I don't want a complete 'Shed', I want something comfortable, good looking, 40mpg +,prefrerably cruise and heated seats as thats what i'm used too now. I would love something like this;

I would snap one up in a heartbeat but at the end of the day is an old Merc and could cost me an arm and a leg if it
goes pop. If I haggle I could probably get one for around 2k (Wanting a good spec), so if it goes boom do I just take
the hit and move on?

In my opinion, any used car has the ability to be a money pit, If you want an old Merc....get one!
Whatever you buy, just give it a damn good check over, have a look at forums to find out common problem areas to look for on certain makes and models. Do your homework, buy the best you can afford and enjoy it....whatever it is!

That looks a very nice car,you cant go wrong,a luxury car for "shed" money. If it has been well looked after and you have it serviced properly it will do another 100,000 easily. Old Mercs are reliable,of course if something major does happen its going to be expensive especially in a Merc` Main dealer with "genuine" parts. A good Merc` Indy using O/E parts can cut costs in half.
My 2002 C270 CDI cost me £1500 in 2017, all I`ve had done is 5 glow plugs, 2 TCA`s, and servicing. Still runs as sweet as a nut and does 50 mpg on a run.
Mind you if you want to talk real old Mercs,in my garage is a 1997 SL320 R129,
