Just wondered has anyone owned one of these and are they worth a punt?
I have a budget of £12K and am looking a reasonable costing daily driver, I do about 5k miles a year.
I fancied an Edition 30 but these are quite expensive and hard to find not messed with.
The R32 would be a bit too much for me to run as we have another 2 cars.
My short list is
Edition 30
Edition 35
R Mk 6
Focus St 250
Megane Rs
Feedback from someone that may have owned some of the above would be great.
Got to be honest the Focus St 250 is edging it at the moment as they seem to be a good value car.
I'd much prefer 4 doors too.

Have you driven any of them? The Golf's are all great all rounders, but a bit boring if you fancy chucking it down a B road. The mk3 Focus ST isn't great, handles ok but has a boring engine devoid of any character. The Megane RS would be my choice out of that lot, great cars, very capable and great fun, not as good an all rounder as a Golf though.
Depends what you want, a B road blaster or an all round daily? B road blast I'd take the Megane RS250, all rounder I'd take a ED30 Golf GTi.

Definitely test drive them all, all have very different characters. For me though, the Golf's are all boring to chuck around, very capable but just dull. I recently test drove a 2017 Golf R as a replacement for my mk2 Focus ST I've had 3 years, but found it dull and unsure what all the fuss is about them. Ended up keeping my ST instead.
Megane RS though out of your list, it's the best B road blaster. I ruled them out for me as I had a phase 1 Clio 172 many years ago, which was the most unreliably POS I've ever had. Could never trust a Renault again!

Got to be the Megane hands down, I had a 200 Cup Clio and my mate had a Megane 265 which had been breathed on by K-Tec (map, decat, 290/300hp) and it was a weapon! Destroyed any road you pointed it down and the clever diff thing was very noticeable on turn in.
The MK6 R is a lovey car, looked at them many times, I owned a MK5 GTi and two MK5 R32’s so it was sort of natural progression. But for me it wasn’t enough of a change to being sat in a MK5. Now that prices have fallen on the MK7 I think you would be better to save a touch more (£13k) and buy one of those. Lots of owners state a massive change due to the new platform, more tubing options, better interior and media etc and obviously newer.
Depends what you want I guess, if you want a daily capable of a bit of Jekyl and Hyde then the MK7 R is probably ideal, however if you want a B Road Blaster then the Megane is incredible value.
There are some great readers cars threads on here from owners of Megane RS models if you need inspiration.
