Given two examples of a Touareg, one March 15 plate, 34k miles and £21k vs one April 16 plate, 63k miles and £20k, which would you choose? Options, history and visible condition comparable.

How many miles are you planning on doing in it per year? and how long are you thinking of keeping it for?

If 12k miles + per year and planning on keeping for over 3 years then the newer, higher mileage example would be my choice.

Cheers,

Chris

In terms of mileage and wear the older car is effectively 3 years younger for basically the same money - I'd take that all day long provided the spec was the same.

Low miles could mean skimped maintenance. Or loads of stop start, engine never getting up to fully working temperature use to take Millie and Tarquin the mile tos chocolate and back then Waitrose three miles away and back again.

Cars are made to be used, work better and, IMO work better when they are. Temps stabilise, oil works properly and better and long distance cruising is far better for an engine than low temp constant stop start.

It will do 12k a year for around 3 years!

Not really true though, at 6-8k a year a car is probably doing short journeys as poster above alludes to.

Frankly I want to lean towards the low miler but struggling with the concept of paying 20k+ for a 5 year old car.

You have to ask yourself, will it be easier In three years time to sell a 15 plate 70k mile car as opposed to a 100k mile 16 plate car.

I'd go for the older one with the lower miles, with only one year between the two cars the nigh on 30k difference will between them the older lower mileage car will still be worth more 3 years down the line.
