Trading in a BMW
Discussion
I got a 5 series that I love 520d not the most exciting but ideal for me
looking to trade it in for something a little fresher
Mine is a 2016 with 65k ish miles FSH etc
I was looking at getting a 2018 with say 20k miles
Trade in value I've been quoted seem shockingly low
One BMW dealer quoted €15-18k trade in value - selling cars like mine @€23k - same year/spec and milage
I know the dealer has to make a living but this seems savage
Any thoughts, advice

Is it very highly spec'd I only ask because auto 520d M Sports with Pro Nav start from 15K all with less than 40k on the clock

With 2018's with the same spec starting from 23k I'd say you got offered a reasonable trade in price.

Don't? Why would you trade in a basically new car at a huge loss just to replace it with an identical basically new car for a load more money? Maybe I'm missing something but this seems like willfully throwing money away for no gain whatsoever.DoubleD said:

Trade in values are always shocking. If you want a good price for your car I’m afraid you have to sell it privately with all the hassle that comes with that. When I come to change my BMW it will be going up for sale privately. Not much looking forward to it but I’m not prepared to take a rock bottom price for what is a really good car.
