audi a4 avant tsi vs golf estate tsi

I'm shortlisting cars and am drawn towards either a golf estate tsi or an audi a4 avant tsi. It would probably be around a 2017 model, I may go for a 1.4 or 1.5 although if I go for DSG the Audi only comes in a 2 litre. I intend to take both for a test drive but in the meantime does anyone have experience of both in terms of driveability etc. I want something I enjoy driving and I value most refinement, a quiet comfortable ride etc

VAG are having a few issues with the 1.5 so be aware, why not go somewhere between the two & look at an Octavia.

Octavia has a VAG 1.5 doesn't it, or is that other cars in the skoda range?

I already have an Octavia, a Mk 2 and it's a good car but not the last word in refinement in terms of road noise etc. I would miss the enormous boot, hence my looking for an estate. I'm aware of the kangarooing issue with the 1.5 engine but understood they have resolved that now?

Peach is perhaps a bit of an overstatement! It’s not a bad engine but it was surprisingly thirsty in my OH’s A1.

I went from a Golf Estate to an A4 Avant and the Golf boot is quite a bit bigger, surprisingly.

If you want a quite but big estate I'd say take a proper look at the 1.5T Mondeo

The missus bought a used 2017 A4 Avant with the 1.4 TSI engine last May. For nearly the same money she could have got a slightly older Octavia VRS (which was my choice - but she’s a badge snob and preferred the Audi interior).

Despite my initial scepticism, I’ve been pretty impressed with how it drives and the 1.4 engine seems surprisingly punchy and smooth. It certainly seems like a decent drive and it’s a nice place to be. To me, it drives significantly better than the Mondeo which we test drove (but that’s all subjective).

When we looked there seemed to be quite a few coming up to 3 years old with decent prices.

Thank you Richard. Audi seemed to have discontinued the 1.4 in lare cars in favour of a detuned 2 litre with 148 bhp
