Slow poverty spec 1 series... Any positives?

As per title.
After our Yeti trouble we decided to have a look at a 1 series (poverty spec, detuned 2.0 in 116i badging) I know there's no great love for this car, especially after reading the long thread on it. I also know there's a stereotyped owner and to be honest I think I'd feel a bit embarrassed, knowing what every other petrol head was thinking....
But as a used proposition in a pinch, is it a different matter?
The car we found is advertised at £5,500 with a warranty. 2010. 1 owner. Full main dealer history. 35k miles. It looks brand new apart from some flaking on a wheel and a bit of interior plastic is shedding its soft-touch.
- Looks. I know most don't like it, but I think it's handsome enough - I like the long bonnet and the pre-fussy/complex era lack of gadgets
- I thought the drive was nice. Yes, it *is* slow. But I, or rather my wife, can live with that. And some ECU work should help.
- Driving it reminded me of my MK1 focus - it felt more analogue that modern cars, more about the driving
- It felt *very* solid. Essentially it feels like an engineering upgrade on Focus from the same era. It just feels like it will last a long time, and I like the small features like the plastic jacking blocks to save the sills from dodgy tyre fitters (not that I use them...). Not many/any gadgets to fail, either!
At this price, is it really so bad?

Sorry I was a bit unclear... Not our Yeti but the one we went to look at described in the "buying a Cat D" Yeti thread a couple of days ago. A car I really wanted us to end up with, but too many alarm bells so far. Still a vague possibility if the price drops and we get an inspection.If you like how it looks and like how it drives, then why not?
Obviously if you turn up to Sunday Service with it plastered in M badges you'll get the piss ripped out of you. Likewise if you stand around the water cooler at work banging on about how quick your new "bee-em" is you might come across as a bit of a bell. But if you're one of the 99.99% of 116i owners who don't you'll be fine

I actually like the older 1 series (and I drive a MK1 focus funny enough!). I think they look fine in standard form but there seems to be some known issues with the 4 cyl petrol engines which has put me off previously taking the plunge.
Nothing wrong with them though....those 'image' concerns you have also apply to the Audi A3 and last Merc A class. As long as the car hasn't been Barry'd up or trying to pull of the 'ghetto' special then should be fine.
