As I realise that with the C63, I spend £450+ on fuel, tax and insurance and that driving the Caterham to track days is not really fun anymore, I am looking to replace the C63 this spring. Hoping to see what's out there that would be a good fit to my requirements!

- 15 mile each way commute mostly fast moving B-road rush hour traffic and a 2-3 miles of bumper to bumper city traffic
- Fun to drive - I know nothing's going to match the C63 but the 7 can fill that hole on weekends
- Needs to be able to tow the Caterham on a trailer
- Only two of us, so prefer a hatch or a coupe (definitely no SUVs!)
- Decent on fuel/tax
- Ideally £15k-ish so rest of the money goes towards a fun summer classic

Based on my research, MK7 Golf GTI (Manual PP) is what I am thinking. Left field option (more than the £15k budget and not a hatch/coupe) but the Giulia Veloce is rated for towing and reviews look good!

What else should I be looking into?

Not sure about your towing capacity needs but my suggestion are these two:

E500

The S5 looks like a serious contender, didn't know it is rated for towing!

Thanks, will check them out. The examples I can see in my budget are older than I would like them to be. How about the fun factor?

A BMW F20 125i ( 215bhp ) could be an option , The M135i are unfortunately not Homologated for towing .

The 8 speed auto is great & will be relaxing for pulling away with the trailer .

Unfortunately M135i not rated for towing. Not sure I could live with that Astra interior - buttons everywhere!

Combined weight should be less than 1000 kgs.

Golf GTI looks like a more fun option than the 125i?
