Motorway Mile Muncher - Volvo V50?

I'm putting way too many miles on my M140i, and so would like a second car that can do the motorway miles and general driving, and I can keep the M140 as my fun car.

I don't want to spend more than £1,500, for which there is plenty of choice, but one that keeps jumping out at me is the Volvo V50 R-Design. In particular this D5: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184126289315. Is there a reason I should be avoiding these?

It has cruise, air con, a big ass boot and heated seats. Looks like a winner to me.

I dont have experience of the V50, but I have the D5 in my C30. Cracking engine, and getting 37mpg with mixed driving with the 5sp auto box. Will easily crack high 40's on a run.

Reliable engine as well with routine servicing.

I've had a V50 R-Design D2 since new 2012, its just passed 211K miles, with very few issues along the way. Non-engine related stuff (though that only amounts to a DPF at 194K) are as follows:-

Both front steering gaiters replaced - 140K, 160K miles
Both front lower arms replaced (bushes shot) 180K miles
New Battery (195K miles)
Plastic Pin that links pedal to master cyclinder snappede at 201K miles

I see no reason why it shouldn't just munch the miles.

I had exactly that car for over 45000 miles. Never let me down. MPG was about 32 but that was mostly urban, you’ll get much more with a lot of motorway driving. It’s a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing 0-60 is 7.6 seconds and top speed 144mph. I tended to use that at traffic light Grand Prix with much success, others just don’t expect it from a Small Volvo (I did burn through front tyres) - I believe it shares a floor pan with a Focus.

Not had any issues apart from replacing the indicator stalk (£40 and 5 mins) at about 190K, should have added that to my list above.
