Hi,

Probably narrowed down my next car to an F30 3 Series Touring but don't know about the reliability or must have options. Searches return stuff mainly from 2017.

Ideally, I'd probably go for a petrol but these seem really rare so probably I'll go for the diesel. I don't know anything about diesels and have never owned one.

If any of you great people would be able to help point me in the right direction on the following questions/requirements, I'd be most grateful:

- Want 6 cyl (will look at the 330i if it is good but would prefer 6 cyl)
- Is the 330d / 335d reliable? What are the common issues to worry about
- Are there any issues with the Xdrive system?
- Do I need to worry about DPF and how do I check?
- I presume the auto gearbox is the ZF and reliable

Budget is max £25,000 and a quick sweep of the market shows I'd be looking at a 2017 model with about 30,000 miles for about £23k.

I picked up a f31 330d with 39k miles not long ago for half of your budget.

Pronav and xenons are my 2 ‘must haves’. The zf8 gearbox is very good. Haven’t had any issues having done 5k miles since August. Mine does short journeys 6 days a week and a longer blast on the weekend and I’ve not had any dpf issues thus far.

330i in some instances is a 4 cylinder.

Thanks.

I can only find two F31s for some reason.

The 340i seems above my budget - only high mileage ratty looking ones are coming up

I'd look at the 330i 4cyl if it is especially good and more reliable than the 335d.

Id vote for 330d, not the PH vote but for real usage it’s a great package. I ran a e90 330d (Same engine just older version) for 2 yrs/80k and it was brilliant, frankly I abused the thing, but routine services saw it to 160k when I traded for a f11 535d. Gearbox on the f11 was far superior (beat I’ve had) but I much preferred the engine of the e90 even though it’s inferior by numbers. Hence I think an f31 330d would be a great choice.

One thing to note though, the ride on both cars in m sport trim was horrible, I keep looking at luxury trim cars thinking they’d be a good compromise (must be getting old).
