Anyone had these and can recommend them? I've been stuck in a bit of a car rut lately. Have a FN2 type R, tired of the running costs. Considered a Scirocco but the 1.4L engine is to be avoided so leaves me with the 2.0 which I don't want. Now considering a 2012-2017 Honda civic. They look minging but must be an awfully reliable car?

There are lots of good reliable rivals to a standard gen9 civic depending on how much you want to spend.

Perfect dull cheap transport. I considered getting a diesel for a 140 mile commute I was doing recently.

I'm trying to go cheap and reliable as possible as well as maintaining my 24 year old ego on the road with something that looks remotely aesthetic.

I picked one up recently as a stop gap when my company car went back and whilst I took a bit of time away from work. Wanted something a little different from the usual Focus and the like for the budget I had in mind and the Honda reliability appealed.

I got a 2015 1.8 petrol in SR trim. Comes well kitted out as standard - leather, heated seats, cruise, reversing camera, bluetooth streaming, privacy glass, electric folding mirrors, pano roof, decent stereo with sub in boot, traffic sign recognition, lane departure and all that stuff.

Seems well screwed together and whilst it is a noticeable step down in overall quality from my previous car I can't really fault it so far for the cost. Don't mind the looks now as well!

Our 1.4 2016 civic has been nothing but reliable. Approaching 50k at the moment. OG tires lasted till 40k. Had front pads done and that’s been it.

Rear visibility isn’t the best. Ours has parking sensors , optional camera probably better.

The bumpers stick out quite a bit.... this resulted in them getting scraped on two separate occasions within the first year of ownership. Had another couple on the sides of the bumpers since.

Apart from that no issues.

I run a
2015 (mk9) civic SR diesel
.
previous car 120i bmw 178hp petrol...LCI
yep I know the reviews rave about the 1 series..
but found the rattles even on a 2015 car with 8k terrible.
plus the handling on broken up back roads in the wet scary.
.
the Civic.
right...loads of toys...
reversing camera, front and rear sensors. heated seats.
panto roof...magic rear seats...google that one...cruise control.
boot space bigger than a Golf or Focus. I can get an adult bike in the back with the seats folded flat without even taking any wheels off..you get used to the spoiler across the rear window..after all even the audi a2 and original scirroco had a spoiler in the same place...
.
being a 2015 diesel its free road tax, getting 62 to 66mpg per tank...best trip was 300 miles to the south coast averaged over the day 74mpg...(road work kept the speed down)
.
ok ok …..its not got much power....but a decent amount of torque.
.
looks....imo...front ok,,.,,,rear rather over styled...
.
costs....bmw charge a fortune for updating the satnav...dealer only....honda from 2015 uses Garmin...you just use a memory stick (16gb) download the map from the garmin website and upload it yourself...20min job.
.

I've had 2 of these consecutively. Dull driving but very reliable.

2012 1.8 ES petrol and a 2016 1.8 Sport petrol. The older one is still in the family and should be a bargain when it goes. ~£4.5k - 60k miles, pristine condition.

Neither have missed a beat.
The magic rear seats and generous boot space are probably the best points. Oh - and the reliability.

we have just bought a 1.8 2014 civic.

For the price its hard to beat, comes with a loy of kit for the price and is a very smooth and calm drive, also looks a bit different to every focus out there.

The front looks hideous though. But inside looks like a nice place to be.

So that means something 2014 onwards & for me the Alfa Giulietta tick all of those boxes as does the Astra GTC.
