Thoughts on a hot/warm hatch

Hello

I've got up to £2k to spend on a bit of fun for the weekend, ie. a warm/hot hatch, something that the kids can get into the rear (I've just sold my mk1 TT as they would no longer fit)

I wouldn't want to modify, would keep it standard.

My list so far is:

- R50 Mini (although they seem to be very troublesome, particularly gearboxes)
- Renaultsport Clio
- Saxo VTR (although i think they are getting tricky to get hold of now)
- Fiat Cinquecento/Seicento Sporting

any advice on the above or other thoughts welcomed. Cheers.

Maybe more on the tepid side but I’ve never got out of a panda 100hp without a childish grin.

Or stretch budget and early 500 abarths are not far over your budget. Seen a few now for under 3k

Fiesta st should be a serious consideration at this price point.

Will have a decent choice of cars and they're not a bad steer.

SEAT Leon 2.0tfsi should squeeze in budget. I saw an FR one for about £1700 on autotrader. It is basically a Mk5 GTI with 200hp and is a good steer. I had one mapped to about 240hp and it was a little firecracker.

They also did a 180hp version that was less shouty looking before the launched the FR version 90% a GTi and would remap the same if that's your bag.

I can't believe how cheap they have become.

I loved mine. But now old, and still Italian. Not many seen on the road these days.

Don't discount Italian and age, our 98k miles MiTo that has not been pampered at all has been much more reliable than the 335i series that was pampered. Issues were cheaper to fix too.

Having had kids in a Mk1 TT & in a Mini Cooper S R56 I can confirm that they are as bad as eachother!

I'd consider a Citroen DS3 1.6 or a Fiat 500 1.4 16v (100HP)

But you might need to stretch to 2.5k to get one with 60k miles and a service history

At that price point surely a ZC31S Swift Sport is the answer.

£2295.

The M16A engine is known for its reliability and there's not many mechanical issues that we know off , parts are cheap to buy and easy to fit yourself with its simplicity.

I thought so too, but mine's been used near enough every day for the past three years. It hasn't even been serviced in that time and all it's cost me is two front tyres, a set of discs/pads and an indicator bulb. MOT due in May so I might treat it to a long overdue cam belt change at the same time. Then again, I said that last year. And the year before that...

This would be where my money would go. Difficult to beat at 2K after a bit of haggling.
