Fun car and family car (his 'n' hers)

I need inspiration. It’s time for me to buy a new car, and if past form is anything to go by, my other half will want one too. Currently i have a 2013 F11 535d and she has a 2010 Seat Altea.
Working in engineering and developing eDrives for a tier 1 automotive supplier to the OEMs, i’m actually quite convinced about electric vehicles and i can see myself driving a I-Pace or EQC within 3-4 years. However, before i can do that i want a last hurrah with something a bit more interesting than a quick diesel.
What is not set in stone is whether i take a quick family car (kids are nearly 3 and 8) and get her a runaround, or get her a family car and something more fun for me.
The main criteria for my car are noise, fun and drama (=V8, if possible).
If i’m to have the family car i suspect it’ll be something like a C43 AMG.
If she has the family car it needs to be something like a midsize SUV i.e. Seat Ateca, as she has ‚issues’ with the length of a comparible estate. This then leaves me with less for my car, possibly forcing me in the direction of a M135i (not sure if it’s special enough).
Budget for the two cars is 50000 Euro (i moved to Austria a long time ago). Generally speaking, cars are a bit more expensive in Austria owing to NOVA, a sort of enviromental tax on new cars which keeps used prices high, so something costing 40000 GBP is going to be 50000 Euro (at least). Additionally, AMGs with 450+ bhp are not an option, as they cost around 600 Euro per month for insurance and tax in Austria – is expect to land at 400 +/-50 bhp.
Obviously i've get some ideas, but please, go ahead and confuse me.

Yeah, a B5 would be great, but out of my league in terms of purchase price and insurance/tax. Could probably just about get a G30 M550i within budget, but the engine note is very subdued. What is the sound like on the Alpinas? I always thought they were the more restrained relatives of the M GmbH's products.
I've not driven any of the recent models, the B10 made a lovely noise and the B3BT has I believe an Akrapovic exhaust system fitted as standard which sounds pretty good here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH6FxejnVQI
What about Ford Kuga 2012 as a family car? This car has a lot of advantages: design, dynamics, ground clearance, quality of materials, build quality, gearbox, trunk volume, spaciousness, fuel consumption, maintenance cost, brakes, handling, price, noise isolation. These benefits will pleasantly surprise you

Indeed it does! Thanks for the idea... wasn't on my radar as i assumed they were more expensive than they are. B3 fits nicely into my budget.

If i go down the route of a fun car for me and something all-purpose for the mrs, the short list is currently Ford Kuga, Seat Ateca, or Mazda CX-5 (all around 2016-2017).Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
