3k 12-15,000 miles + new baby on the way
Discussion
Hi guys
Mrs is looking for a car that will comfortably fit a pram in the boot with around a 3k budget. The car will need to cover 12,000+ miles each year, mostly motorway, so looking for a diesel.
I’m stuck at 2008-2010 Focus 1.6TDCi but any other suggestions would be a great help.
There seem to be a few mk7 fiestas within budget but went to see one and feel it may be a tad too small.
Cheers

Isn't the 1.6 diesel engine in these the Peugeot/Citroen/Volvo/Ford unit that has a reputation for unreliability and failed injector seals?
Yes it is. The 2.0TDCi is much more reliable.I would also throw mk1 CMax into the mix. We bought (and still have!) a 2.0TDCi CMax when we had our first child and they are brilliant. Slightly higher car with nice square doors, so easy to get car seat in and out. You can also get them with built in blinds in the rear windows to stop glare and usually that model will also have rear tints. We have all these on ours. 2.0TDCi + 6 speed manual gearbox is an excellent combination with plenty of poke and does a relaxed 1800rpm at 70mph.
Avoid the EPB if you can. Stupid pointless showroom poseur idea that costs a bomb when the rear motor packs up.
Avoid DPF if you can.
You should be able to get a great one for no more than £2k, possibly a lot less.
You clearly want the best start in life for your child
