MOT & Date of Reg Discrepancy?

My daughter is going to look at a car at a dealership.

The car was first registered in January 2017.

The dealer's website says that the MOT expires in October 2020.

How can this be? How/why would you get an MOT three or four months
before the first one is due?

Done for a previous sale that didn't go through?

Done as part of prep when the car can be into stock?

12 months mot is a always better than 3 from a sales perspective.

Ask the garage why.

You can mot any car whenever you like.

You'd be mad but you could get it done on a 1 day old car if you wanted to.

We put one of cars for an early MoT (3 months early) and continued with 9-monthly MoTs because it was doing starship-mileage and seemed less hassle to do MoT at the same time as servicing than have to make separate trips.

Losing three months of MoT is only about a tenner's worth, which more than offsets the half hour each way of travelling plus an hour waiting time at the MoT station during the test and having to take half a day off work to do it.

Plus as mentioned in other posts above, customers don't want to buy a car with only a couple of months MoT left so it gets MoT'd early.

The car was so mis-described - she walked away without asking; pity as she had a long wasted journey.
As well as lots of minor damage inside and out, the carpets were wet from a glass roof problem
for which there had been a recall that had not been carried out.
