KIA's Values- do they fall off a cliff at 7 years?

I'm looking for a daily up to about 5/6k preferably diesel(may also consider a hybrid) and 14/15 plate Ceeds seem to be within budget.

The obvious appeal is that, provided that have less than 100k miles, they will have a year or two's factory warranty remaining.

I am aware that it won't be a particularly exciting car to own or drive but it would seem to suit it's intended purpose perfectly.

I am interested to hear peoples thoughts generally and in particular as to whether value retention is almost solely dependent on the 7 year warranty.

In a word no they don't they drop at a similar rate to most mainstream options.

I just had a look on autotrader at prices for an identical spec car from year 2012 and year 2014 and no the warranty expiration doesn't seem to make a difference to price.,

FWIW I drove quite a few Cee'd and i30 hire cars between 2007 & 2010 and I thought they drove really well - much better than the Astra and right up there with the Focus.

So I'd definitely rate them as one of the best options in their sector at the time - although I can't comment on the later models.

I had a 2008 Ceed D
Very reasonable to drive for the type of Car it is. Very reliable (now with a Colleague on 190K)
Minor issues sorted under Warranty at 5/6 Years Old.

The DRL Drivers fail on the 2012 on Ceed and are inside the Headlamp.

Plus point with used Kias is that they will most likely have been Serviced regularly for 6 Years.

Majority will have been sorted under warranty. Modified version gives no trouble, mine were done 4yrs ago and have been fine since.

Mine is 6years old. 90k miles so far.
No breakdowns.
1 warranty claim for the lights.
1 set of discs and pads, front and rear, DIY fitted for less than £200.
6 tyres I think.
Set of wipers £20.
No road tax, insurance sub £200. Can't get it below 50mpg in sensible motorway driving.
It's not exciting to drive but it's perfectly adequate. I'd recommend one to anyone.
