Rover 75 2.0CDTI - Will I be the AA's new friend?

Thinking of pulling the plug and buying a Rover 75 2.0 CDTI auto.

Be honest now. Are they forever breaking down?

Have read good and horrible reviews. 3 fuel pumps that can crap up. Coil springs can break etc.

What's parts availability like? I'll be doing a fair bit of driving in it, so am looking for something reliable.

I had a silver Connie CDTi and had a couple of issues but they where solved easily. over a couple of years and over 30,000 miles it averaged
50mpg and was as comfy as your front room sofa...

all cars need maintenance. stay on top of it instead of letting things mount up - look throught the history before you buy it and if you see receipts that address common issues you'll be okk.

Weren't the diesel engines in these BMW units I seem to recall?

I had a ZT 1.8 with the dreaded K series engine, obviously going back a significant number of years now, maybe 12? but at the time the car mechanically was pretty sound apart from the engine which was just starting to show signs of HGF when someone drove into the back of it and thankfully wrote it off.

Edit- There is a company called Rimmer Brothers who still seem to be good at supplying parts for these cars

The engines are BMW and pretty sound from what I read.

The mantra on the Over 75 forums is that the things that go wrong are the things that BMW made!!

A very easy and worthwhile tip is to ensure the heater scuttle drains are clear of leaves. They do block up, and guess where Rover put the ECU? In the scuttle. So if it fills, it expensively drowns the ECU.

There are a lot worse cars out there.

If it hasn't already been done chop off the front eight inches of the air intake & throw it away- it's very restrictive and serves no purpose.
