Weekend Car - Depreciation Buster

Thoughts people...

I've recently taken a company car which means my current baby (2015 M235i) has been released for weekend only duties - Happy days.

My thoughts now turn to what is the best move with regards to depreciation now that the car is sitting and not doing many miles a year. Of course selling the car would prevent any losses but I really want to keep a fun weekend car. My question therefore if anyone has any fresh suggestions for weekend cars (at around £20k) that have "bottomed out" or even started appreciating. I'm not looking to make money as such, just limit losses over the next year or so.

So far i've looked at:

- Porsche 996 4S (Not got a massive desire for one right now but know its a reliable options that I may fall for if i took it for a drive.
- Z4M Couple (Low numbers should be good for values but again haven't thought of owning one before)
- RS5 (Always wanted one but I highly doubt it will gain any value. Will it lose less then the 2015 M235 though)

An S1 Lotus Elise is where my money would go....if you can pick up a limited run, low mileage one your money should see minimal depreciation.

Integra DC5 or FD2 civic type R...

Bought my integra for £9k, sold it for £9k 2 years later.

FD2 type R are more like £13-14k for a minter, but the same depreciation proof factor applies.

Whatever you buy, make sure its manual.

Not in that budget, but the 986 boxster in manual guise would be depreciation proof.

Buy the car you want & expect to lose some money because what's looking like a solid ticket today may not be in two to three years time.

This.. I purchased one last summer, take a look on Bring a Trailer, as good condition low mileage examples are reaching decent prices. Just hoping some of that US goodness comes to the UK..

Thanks guys. Lots of good suggestions. Always had German cars previously which leans me more to looking at what I know. Interesting to see that people think the M3s and potentially C63s might be a safer bet to an RS5 though?

Regardless, am I correct in thinking any of the above are likely to lose less than the M235 over the next few years?

Agreed. I'm not sure the concept of depreciation proof will last all that much longer, particularly as ICE starts to lose favour which it will do soon enough. I also feel like many cars are ridiculously overpriced and the bubble is just waiting to burst.

Various TVRs, I doubt you'd lose much on any of them that are in budget.
