A4 b6 2.5tdi manual reliability?

It seems like i have a thing for bad diesel engines because everything I like turns out to be unreliable (had a post about a lexus is 220d a while ago lol)
Question is: how reliable is the 2.5tdi? I dont want to buy into it and have to spend a lot of money on it.
Also, how is it tuning wise? Have seen several ones with 250 and 300hp on youtube, mainly in the a6, so im wondering if this engine is actually good.
Thoughts?
