520i vs 520d for short journeys

Folks,

Considering a 5 series estate since the current offers are pretty decent on the M Sport variants.

We don't drive much on motoways or long distance - maybe once a year. We drive around town and commute to work. Literally 20 miles a day at most.
What would you go for in this case?

520i petrol for me

520i likely cheaper to buy than diesel version
As a fuel, petrol is cheaper than diesel
More reliable: fewer things to go wrong ie DPF (which will go wrong if you dont take on many motorway journeys
Quieter
Petrol is less dirty than diesel, so around town this is desirable

I think in this situation the petrol is the best option.

Someone at work has a 520d that does short journeys in the week and a blast at weekends, fuel economy was surprisingly low c.30mpg and with the threat of dpf's clogging etc the petrol must be cheaper to run.
