Looking for help with buying used 17-19 plate Golf or Focus - Page 1 - Car Buying

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post so apologies if it is in the wrong place. Feel free to give me a kick smile

I am currently driving an old 1.4, 03 plate Polo and am looking to make a fairly big upgrade and could use some help as no one I know drives either of these cars and even after doing what I thought was a fairly big amount of research it seems that the Focus I was after had a bit of a dodgy engine.

I am looking at the following. Is there anything I am missing? This is a very big purchase for me and my family have a long history of buying lemons

17-19 plate
25000 miles at the absolute most
£19000k at the most - will be putting £7500-9500kg down and will HP the rest

Either a 1.4l Petrol Golf either TSI EVO (I think this is the middle range) or an R-line or a 1.5l Focus ST-Line/ST-Line X.

I have looked in to alternatives but they either don't do it for me (the Mazda 3 or A-Class) or are just out of my price range (Focus ST, XC40)

I am looking for something

More spacious
More comfortable
A little bit faster

I plan to drive the car till it dies so depreciaion isn't my biggest concern.

You can’t get a 1.6 litre petrol golf in that age range.

I was looking at some almost new focus vignales this morning though, just at the top of your price range. Look decent.

You are quite right. I meant 1.4.

I saw the Vignale but I read some people saying it is a bit of a waste of money, it's the Focus trying to be posh but the extra cost didn't justify what you got as the interior/exterior visual upgrades feeling and looking a bit naff.

Or maybe even 1.5. Which the tsi evo is.

If that’s a straight car it will go for a lot more than the current bid

It is but I prefer the look and feel of the newer version and it is larger inside.

or a Renault Megane 205 TCe GT (if you can find one).
1.6 petrol Nissan engine (205 bhp), paddle twin clutch Getrag auto and lovely Renault Sport trim.
