Trading in 2 cars

Thinking of trading in two cars for one....has anyone ever done this? Do dealers hate it or do they just give you bottom book value, twice?

Not normally an issue. Some of the IT systems used only have room for one set of car details, so it might be a case of computer says no.

It will be much easier if it is stock (make, model, age) they are likely to retail themselves, if not expect bottom book values.

Make sure you get some values from Motorway and WBAC before heading into the dealer.

I once had the opposite and took a Porsche in against 2 new Hyundai’s. Anything is possible really!

I did it in August last year - part ex'd an Aston Vantage and an Alfa Spider. Didn't cause any problems, and the part ex values were OK. Having said that, it limited my negotiation powers for the car I was buying which is where I think it cost me most.

My dad did this some years ago - he traded in a Megane and a Clio when buying a new Peugeot. I can't remember the details but I think money wise it was all fine, for him at least.

I did it once and I'll never do it again...because I found that having 2 cars works so much better than only having 1. The dealer didn't have any issue with me trading 2 cars in though.

Rookie error. When I did it, I was changing from 4 cars to 3

I was looking to do the same thing and wondered how you go about this. Do you make two trips to the dealer before negotiating on the part-exchange - or do they give you an estimate for the second with proviso for condition. mileage etc.?

I had part ex values before they even saw the cars, on the assumption that they were decent condition / as described. And if I recall correctly, I negotiated a slightly better part ex price before they'd seen the cars.

I will be in a similar situation soon..a 6 year old car I'm good condition/low miles and an absolute shed..thinking I sell the shed privately as a main dealer will likely take one look at the shed and run a mile...

They'll provisionally quote book value sight unseen, and stand over it when you bring the car unless you've seriously misdescribed it.
