Has anyone driven both of these cars and can offer an opinion? I haven't driven either yet myself and can't decide which I prefer. The Leon has a far better interior with more extras on it but the Megane seems to be a better drive and 'more fun' from what i'm reading.

I need a daily driver and am currently considering one of the above. Must have auto gearbox which, unfortunately, rules out the new Ford Focus ST.

When it's down to two cars then the test drive will decide it for you out of the two I preferred the Megane it was more engaging whilst still being practical.

Money no option, I’d go for the Megane all day. I was torn between a manual RS280 and a Cupra 290 DSG but, like you, the automatic gearbox was a deal breaker and the offer on the Leon was an absolute steal in comparison. If they’d offered the Meg with the EDC ‘box for the same price, i would have gone for that, for sure. However, they didn’t, but I’m still chuffed on the Leon.

The Leon certainly has a better interior, although it looks rather understated which is what draws me to the Megane.

Is the Leon “fun” to drive and blast around in?

I test drove all the usual suspects but the megane would be my choice. Compared to the leon/golf it just feels more special, more rewarding. The more you put in the more you get out, the boys at dieppe know what they are doing.

If you like soft touch plastics and a badge buy something else.

Yeah, it all depends what you feel is more important. The Leon is the more all-round package and a good compromise of both the interior and exterior styling.

Sorry, I meant to say that I haven’t actually got it yet! Due to be delivered the first week of April but no idea how realistic that is now. I’m hoping it to be more raw and fun than a VW, but I’m hearing it’s still got a “white-goods” feel to it that most VAG cars have. The Megane is gonna to have that fun factor that can’t be matched.

Most of my driving is a small, boring commute anyway, so as long as It can provide some fun when I’m in the mood to take it out for no real reason, then I’m relatively happy.

Or fortunately. wink

But between these 2 I would just go for the cheapest.

The Focus ST will be getting an automatic gearbox option but i don't think it's available yet.
