BCA Lease Car Collection Cancelled
Discussion
Hi all just after some advice regarding my lease car which was scheduled for inspection/collection today.
The lease agreement ends on 23rd April but as my new car was delivered before then I arranged collection for today having maintained insurance accordingly. However the inspector has elected not to work today due to coronavirus (fair enough) and the collection will have to be rescheduled (have to call back tomorrow apparently).
I'm assuming as I'm responsible for the vehicle up to the 23rd April I will have to provide insurance cover until it's collected, which is a bummer as I'll be insuring a car that I'm not using. What happens if they don't collect the car by the 23rd though? Am I still responsible for it? Do I need to insure it? Should I be charging them for storage?
Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience and can offer any insight. I'm not inclined to grumble too much about the cancellation given what's going on in the world, but it is a bit of a pain and I'm not sure where I stand once the contract ends.
Cheers!

You are definitely responsible for insuring the car until the end of contract or until it is collected by BCA, whichever comes first.
However we've had several vehicles that have been collected after the contract has ended and our company solicitor looked at this and advised we do not remove them from the fleet policy until after they have been collected.
Coronavirus may be a convenient excuse - BCA don't seem how anywhere near enough drivers to action all of their collections in my experience. I had 3 failed collections on a Mercedes last year. I mentioned it on the courtesy call from MBFS after collection and they said they would look into it, I thought that would be the last I'd hear about it. They called me back a week later and offered me £200 compensation!

BCA are closed as of today. They are doing some very limited e-commerce sales but with no set way of anyone able to collect them.
They have 20,000+ cars sitting with them and have stopped all sales, deliveries and collections until further notice. You may have quite a wait.
Car Auction houses are on the specific list of businesses which must close.

My car was due to be collected on Friday by BCA and they have informed me that has now been cancelled. My contract ends that day so it will be out of contract. I plan to just carry on using it until they contact me again, it will still be insured.
My new car was due by the end of the month and that is delayed too so at least I have the old one to use.
