Back in Feb before this COVID-19 stuff came along, I got a quote to end my Golf Gti lease (5 months into a 2 year lease) of 500 quid which I was going to take them up on. Then I got ill so it was the last thing on my mind. However when I tried again to get another settlement figure this month, it had gone up to 1500 quid. Now, I'm guessing that is due to the values of second hand cars going down. Their criteria for calculating a settlement figure is whichever is the smallest out of half the remaining payments or cost to them.

I asked if I could transfer it to another person and unfortunately they said no. The best they could offer was a 3 month holiday. I'm thinking this might not be a bad idea.

1) I'm not paying for it while it's sat on my drive
2) Maybe in a few months time used car values may go back up once this virus thing is over with and I can then settle early at a reasonable price more like the 500 quid I was quoted in Feb.

Have I missed anything? I have asked ALD if that means they will extend the lease 3 months at the end and what that would mean to my contracted mileage and also if it will affect my credit rating.

BTW the reason why I was originally going to end the lease is that my wife is physically sick from the new car smell (can you believe it?). Now though her income has been decimated due to the virus so we have another reason to want to give it back.
