So if I want a 6 cylinders petrol, RWD, manual 4 door saloon, which is not too old, are my options limited to BMW and the Lexus IS250?

I would love something like they have in the states, V6, simple mechanics, RWD, manual. But can't think of anything this side of the world.

I'm honestly not very keen on the japanese saloon looks. A little too toy like as of lately. So is my option BMWs only?

An XE V6 manual would be great. But they only made manuals with the diesels. Same with many other saloons lately. Manuals are diesel only.

What budget are you working with? and what do you class as 'not too old'?

Sub £10k other than those you have mentioned there is only the Audi S4 and Alfa 159 V6 or a MG ZT 260 if you want a V8?!
Sub £15k opens up newer S4's and M3's

Cheers,

Chris

Yes, in that budget would be fine. 10-15K.

Would love one of the sporty petrol XEs. That's the styling I like. Clean and not so busy. But no manuals there.

10 years old I guess could be the limit.

V8 for a daily is a bit much. So would like to stay with a 6. I think it's a good compromise.

The Audis and Alfa are FWD or AWD only. I would like RWD. wink

MB have nothing V6 without auto, Audi FWD/AWD, Alfa Giulia not in budget, Jag XE all auto etc.

One of the tiny number of manual 330i/335i's available is really your only choice for a <10 year old car in budget I'd suggest.

Thanks. You mean if not considering Japanese, right?

And if considering Japanese, the IS is basically the only option as well? I think most others will be auto only.

By the way, petrol Giulias are auto only, even if it was in budget.

Assumed that might be the case with the Alfa but never got as far as checking. Already thrown out Japanese saloons as who wants one of those. wink

Did Mercedes ever make any manual 6 cylinder models to special order?

Just wondering as years ago my mate had a 1994 C280 Elegance that was manual, but when new it was a special order.

To be honest I have the same challenge finding 6 cylinder manual RWD cars, but probably more so as I don't want a turbo!

I think a Lexus IS250 is a good looking car, but it is Japanese which the OP doesn't want and they are all in Band M for Road Tax. eek

So while my 55 plate 330i was way under the OP's budget, it's also 5 years older than he wants.

But I love it!

Hope he finds something to fit the bill. thumbup

But do the fake M cars carry any price premium? Don't much care for that and would rather have a normal trim if they do. If not, for free I'm fine.

Well, but there really isn't anything besides the IS 250, is there? Even the next generation of IS is auto only. I think Nissan has no RWD 4 door saloons and we need to go to Infiniti for that? But they are also all auto I think? Honda and Mazda have zero RWD cars. So what else japanese is there?

The 90's Mercedes could be had with the straight six and a manual. I think this was the last time.

Yes, I agree the IS 250 is a very good looking car. Specially the IS-F. But that is auto only and also a V8, which I really don't need as a daily. But the IS 250 is nice looking for sure.

It's most of the others and newer japanese cars that I don't like much. Because they are going more and more ridiculous with the design. Lexus too. The grills and fronts are getting to clown levels of ridiculous with the very new Lexus cars. But BMW and Audi too. Mercedes is still ok.

That blue does seem to be everywhere on the F3x cars, much prefer the dark grey. M Sport is a trim level and I think does carry a premium to it's popularity, there are some Luxury trim cars about though...

That's a tough one. You might be right that apart from BMWs, the IS250 is the only one in budget. The Infinitis are definitely all automatics.

Even with any budget, I think the only other one to add is the Giulia Quadrifoglio, if you live in Europe. In Europe they are available with 3 pedals. In the UK and US that is also automatic only.

I think this is a big part of the reason BMW is able to continue to sell their ugly newer generation cars. They have almost no competition in the RWD + manual niche. biggrin

I owned a IS250 make sure you go for the SE-L spec with Full Lexus. If your interested in one I know of one £5k 09 plate with 75k and Full Lexus Service History. It’s had a new battery, alternator, rear callipers, brakes all round tyres with 5.0mm of tread, Air Con Regassed and Carbon Body Cleaned. DM me if interested.

Why not share some of your ownership experience with the OP, instead of just a sales pitch? smile
