Budget convertable under 1k. What summer shed?

Depends if you need more than 2 seats otherwise get the least rusty mx5 or a Toyota MR2 spyder.
Of the 4 seat options you may get lucky an get a half about bmw e46 3** cab, the saab 93 is a good shout, Mercedes clk of that ere rust like it's a hobby so tread carefully. Volvos are worth investigating to.
Realistically putting cabriolet in At search 50miles for £1k an see what turns up that might actually last a summer.

5 years ago now, but I bought an Audi Cabriolet on eBay for £536. 2.6 litre V6 auto with 150 bhp 
Lovely thing for the money, and cleaned up pretty well. Silver paint meant that from anything more than 2 m away it looked pristine. Close up, the scuffs and scratches from17 years spent on the streets of SW London meant it looked a little more careworn. The blue cloth interior (and hood) were pretty much unmarked though!

Just buy whatever seems to be in the best condition, fingers crossed it might last you a year. Singling out a particular car at this price point is folly.

Merc SLK and CLK for £1K will be from their rusty era ,the 9-3s mentioned will also likely have underlying issues .
You could get lucky ,it'll be pot luck.

Saabs are do-able but be prepared for some suspension work and possible interior stuff. At £1500 there are better looking ones which still need work.
CLKs at this price are rusty or have broken roofs. I saw 4, all garbage.
Audis look good, the roof electronics are fragile but there are lots of videos on repairing them. Be careful which engine/box combination you get.
Anything will probably need tyres, brakes, wipers, cleaning, probably some suspension, a service etc.
You could buy mine which is properly sorted mechanically, but it would be more than your budget. It will, however, drive nicely and it all works.
Do NOT buy anything with a broken roof unless you really really really like messing with microswitches, hidden pumps and grazed knuckles. Mine was sorted with a new pump before I bought it.

They're the one with the problem.
For the last eleven years I have used a Renault Megane 1.6 !6v convertible for the summer. It's 1999 vintage, does 40+ mpg and goes through the MOT with minimal work. I bought it from a friend in mid December who need to get rid of it for less than a thousand pounds. It is a genuine four seater and has provided many happy journeys to the seaside and for many a good day out. It's now worth around £500 and similar cars can be bought for around that with less that 100k miles. Mine is rust free and provides a good basis for a summer shed.
