Going to need a 5 door soon for baby duties.

Want something that sounds better than a typical 4 cylinder drone.

Price up to 20k but if closer to 20k i want it to be less than 5 years old.

Candidates so far are:

Bmw m140i
Fiesta st 1.5

Any other ideas?

Also forgot to add, MUST be reliable with scope for stage 2 power upgrades with no forging required etc.

There’s a new shape focus rs on auto trader for 20k

Or if you went a bit older, old shape Audi rs3?

They sound very nice

You lost me when you said " 5 door for baby duties" and then proceeded to list a Fiesta and a 140i. I was about to suggest estates. biggrin

Would not a more sensible 'sized' car be a better bet? I know people can make do with a small car. But really a 5 door Fiesta is hardly any more practical than a 3 door one. They have relatively tiny boots. A more substantial vehicle would likely be a much better bet.

Is there a reason for the 5 year cut off? Seems a little arbitrary.

Not sure, I’ve never had one.

Had a b8.5 S4 avant, that was reliable, but might not be what you want if you’re looking at hatches.

Personally I would be looking at facelift 6.2 c63s, not going to get much that sounds better than that with 5 doors at the price range.

I know of tons of people who have made do with a 1 series or a fiesta, and like i say id only be using my car from time to time, majority of the time would be using my partners large car. I just like the more darty feel you get with smaller cars although im happy to look at bigger cars too.

The default choice for this is the E90 M3, ignoring the 5 year rule. Buy a £250 private plate on it

If it also has to cover baby duties then ride quality needs to be higher on the list than handling
as probably would leather (easy clean) seats rather than alcantara or other fabrics.

the pre face lift cars gearbox is terrible and the ride is spine smashing, the GLA45 is a vastly better daily driver

what about the best of both worlds, a Q3 for family practicality with the awesome 5 pot engine (with huge tuning potential), Evo reckon they drive a lot better than the RS3 and have a much better ride

BMW n54 engines have forged internals already. Not sure about the n55 or b58.

Eta civic type r fk2. Love mine, practical, good sound plus boost whooshes all the time. Hopefully Honda reliability as well.

He wants a reliable 5 door with tuning potential

The ad is for a 4 door saloon, have issues with shell bearings spinning, throttle actuators giving up and aside from sticking a supercharger on theres little scope for improvement in figures

I agree about the leather seats, but babies aren't bothered about hard suspension.
