Help on a new motor

Hi guys I’ll be coming up to the end of my insurance in the next few months and thinking of going to Petrol as I don’t do a lot of miles. around 80-100 miles a week if that it’s mainly driving to my partners house if not it’s just in and out of town or to work which is a short run. My mind has been set on a 335d xdrive but maybe that’s not the right car for the mileage I’m doing I have a e350 v6 diesel st the moment that’s averaging 25mpg on my weekly trip to work and to my partners house it gets about 37 highest 44 it I’m VERY light on the foot haha if where to go to petrol I like the golf r or the s3 maybe the 135i but I have heard there terrible on fuel worse then my Mercedes. What do you guys think I should do some of my friend say it’s not getting enough of a run to clear the car out and I’m better off with a petrol some say stick to a diesel any help would be really appreciated thanks guys

Based on doing 20mpg in the S3 et al. and 44mpg in you current Merc, you’re looking at and additional £50/month worst case. If you can’t afford that then you can’t afford the other increased ownership costs that come with these types of cars IMHO

Would it not be an awful lot cheaper and less risky to your personal finances, in the current economic pandemic climate to just renew the insurance ? . Or am I missing something fundamental ?

Yes for that distance petrol would be a better choice. Something like a XE with a V6 and a supercharger would be ideal ;-)

But don't just get rid of the BMW because of the fuel. Make sure you want to change the car.

What do you want from your new car?

If you like your E350 why not get the 350 petrol version, fuel wise depending on what you buy fuel will be 18-20 around town & 30's on a run.

It’s just a little big for my use and it’s only me and my partner ever in it at one time It was bought for business use but doesn’t get used for what it was intended for so it’s just my daily car now so looking for something more fun really I’m 22 I have thought about the 335d xdrive as there little smaller and decent power in them but Ovs not as fun as a golf r or s3

You're missing detailed knowledge of his finances and situation.

Fair enough so how much do you want to spend on a hot hatch?

I have seen a few golf r hovering around the 15 thousand bracket and a few s3 and I have seen a couple of 335d xdrive around the 15 mark also
