Not sure if I should buy a new car now or wait
Discussion
Hi all.
I hope you are keeping safe and well.
I'm not sure what to do.
I had a 10 year old Nissan Almera for 4 years for £1600.
Then an 11 year old Diesel Accord (top spec) for 4 years for £3000.
The clutch is going, the aircon needs a regas and the check engine light is showing but apart from that the car is fine. I will need to buy a Euro 6 compliant diesel before the London ULEZ expands as I work in the expansion zone.
My insurance is always over £1000 a year (I have had an accident just over 5 years ago but the conviction was in October 2015) and the cheapest I can find is £1200.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to get a new car as others have got insurance for £500 ish.
My commute is 30 motorway miles each way but am currently working from home.
I have identified that the most reliable economical car is Honda's 1.6l Diesel.
I would like to find something in the region of £6000 but I am dreaming.
I can't find any leather Civics with decent service history/mileage for less than £12000, at which point, I'm leaning toward HG68MTY (google it, I'm not sure if I can post links as a new member yet) which can be let go for £17000. They also have HD19WUR but I prefer the colour and the fact that the prior is auto.
I have a new credit card which allows me to pay off in 2 years interest free, and I can afford it, but not sure if I should buy a new car or just renew the insurance on my accord (which is currently sorn'd-waiting to be sold for parts).
What would you guys do? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, and please keep safe.
PS, I change my own oil/oil filters and have done my fuel filters but that's probably the extent of my mechanic knowledge.
I hope you are keeping safe and well.

ULEZ Compliant cars in or just around your budget & all will be reliable.
