Range Rover L322 - are they really that unreliable?
Discussion
Mrs Brett would like one as the second car/dog wagon.
I've never owned a Landrover product, but have seen numerous and highly frequent stories of bork!
Will be either the 4.4 or the 4.2 as it will only do a few thousand miles per year, and I don't want to spend much more than £5k as an initial outlay.
What can I expect for the money?
What always breaks?
Why can't she just have an Rx400h?

I keep and eye out for L322 threads as I'm pretty much made up that one will be my next regrettable purchase.
I found a RX300 for my parents a couple of years ago, that is definately the sensible choice. Possibly more so than the RX400 as it has less to go wrong, although the RX400s are still pretty good.
If I were being smart a RX300 or RX350 would be the better buy. Buy there's just something about the L322. I think it is the best mix of modern / not too OTT technical. Aim is 4.2 S/C late 2006> with the updated interior. <2006 the tax rate is lower but I just prefer the updated one.
4.4 the only one I would get is the Jaguar engine & box one but they are slim picking vs. the BMW model.

I think any Range Rover purchase is a case of heart over head......Ive owned a 2005 L322 with the BMW 4.4 V8, never really gelled with it...spent a small fortune fixing water leaks, sat nav, other electrical niggles and all suspension bushes etc, sold it at a loss and told myself never again....
Fast forward a year and i should be looking at the Rx400h....but what do i keep telling myself would be fun? A supercharged Range Rover Sport!
