How long until pre Euro 6 diesel prices tank?

Just wondered what the general consensus on here is about this?.
I’ve currently got a Euro 5 A5 and thinking about upgrading to a Euro 6 A7 in the next year or sowhich hopefully will be future proof enough for the next few years.
Would I be better off getting rid of the A5 and upgrading sooner rather than later?, I’ve just spent a load of money on it-tyres, major service,gearbox oil and filter change and it’s running great, just worried it might be worthless in a years time!.

Why would you need to change it, better devil you know surely for very little loss in value?

I have two Euro 5 cars, worth about £5k "at best" combined...don't have any desire to swap them out, I know them, paid for bits to be fixed on them, cost me £60 tax combined, both do 800/900 miles without a sweat on a tank full...

Unless your driving into congestion zones I don't think even modern cars are "future proof" tbh, until the gov give me a free EV I am taking my Euro5's around the clock a few more times but then EV's aernt the answer either.

I think most people outside of London and maybe Briatol now don't really care about what band a diesel car falls into for emissions as congestion charges are years away for most cities and towns, people just think in terms of Petrol, Diesel or Electric. I dont think 12 months will make a difference to that.

I prefer older diesels as less to go wrong,
and own Euro 4 & 5 cars as I do not drive in cities.

If you buy a Euro 6 the goal posts will then change to Euro 7 and so you will keep having to replace older vehicles unless you buy an EV if you need to enter cities.

I’m quite happy with my current car, just the A7 is going to be what I replace it with next anyway, and prices are starting to look appealing.
I did briefly look at early L405 Range Rovers on Autotrader but quickly realised that was madness!.
I never drive into London so it’s not a huge issue personally but I’m slightly concerned about it coming further out.
I’m not against having an EV in the future, I’d love a Model 3, they’re just too new and too expensive at the moment

I'm looking to spend <£25k for a big estate for the family to last me some time.... Seen some great A6 Avants with the 3.0 BI-TDI lump. I've owned one before as a company car and it's lovely.

But I also like doing loads of road trips into Europe. How long before this car gets turned away at the gates so to speak of many major European cities? Apparently it will cost me £8 to go into Birminghams clean air zone. It's easy to avoid Birmingham of course but the point is still of concern.

It seems inevitable, so perhaps not the best choice for a long term buy?

The Bi TDI does seem like a brilliant engine, I’m not sure if it’s worth the premium over the 272 BHP single turbo one though?, in the A7 anyway, not sure how much prices differ with the A6s?.
I don’t think there’s much cause for concern about cities with Euro 6 diesels that soon?.
