What car to get to drive across Europe?

Hello everyone!!
Since there is no flights to EU, what car would you suggest to get to drive across Europe to visit family? It will be around 900 miles in one go, at least few times per year. Currently driving 20year old Toyota and I'm not sure if it will make it. My budget is 6-6.5k running cost as little as possible and petrol. Automatic or 6 gear petrol preferred. Also needs to be fairly comfortable/quiet. Please help as I have no idea what to get. Mondeo, accord, avensis? What else is out there? Thanks

Diesel fuel is much cheaper in Europe than petrol, so diesel might be good idea. That applies to France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, etc. Not sure where you will be travelling exactly.

The 20 year old Toyota will outlive most of the suggestions that will be undoubtedly be posted.

I've been thinking about this for future holidays and decided that a citroen berlingo multi space ticks all the boxes .
If you don't want something that makes you look like a member of a clappy church like the above then I guess a skoda of some sort will see you right.

Diesel, as it's cheaper to fill up, often steer into Luxembourg to get my fill .

Filled up in Chester Asda, didn't fill up again until I got to Chamomix...chuffed with that! 2012 318d E91 "on its arse with holiday gear"

I don't get the rapid bit, why does it need to.be a fast car? Cruising/driving over in Europe is just as much fun at normal speeds.

Miss too much going too fast anyway, lots to see, but then I did get a speeding fine from Frances finest in Calais last September...

For me if you're looking at an 1800 mile round trip two to three times a year then I'd be looking for a 3.0d with some comfortable seats with this in mind these would be my picks.

100% Mercedes diesel. It's a buyer's market right now. Just type mercedes diesel into ebay and for your budget and below there are 100's of great mile eating continental cruisers.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I think I prefer jap cars. I have been in a c5 years ago and have to admit suspension was so good. Not so sure about reliability. Merc would be nice, but with my budget I think these will be all old and not very reliable.

Any Lexus would be perfect. Reliable, comfy, petrol and very quiet and smooth.

Probably an RX350, GS300 or LS460 would be great.
