GT / Semi Luxury Convertibles?

Looking pretty seriously at the F12 640i BMW convertibles.

A 2012/13 with 40-50k miles in good condition seem like great value and coming up at around $20k-$25k (I'm in the US, sorry for the dollars).

What else should I be considering in the 4 seat convertible range?

Price-wise gets you a tidy A/S5 convertible, but I don't feel they are quite as special as the 6'er. Am I wrong?

I'd need to stretch the budget to a Maserati GranTurismo and almost double it for a DB9... but I've considered both... cos.. why wouldn't you! But much higher buying price and ongoing maintenance might get tiresome? Thoughts?

Anything else I'm missing? I'd love a S-Class convertible but they are triple the budget.. so off the cards..,. maybe an E-Class convertible is worth looking at? How do they compare to the 6'er?

The 640i is a nice car but I'd be looking for an SL500 with the 4.7TT engine.

I'm not sure what the US market is like price wise but these & the CL500 I know these aren't a convertible but once you drop the windows & open the sunroof it'll be like having a convertible:

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Sadly the SL is out as I need 4 seats (young kids).

CL is interesting, I really want a full drop-top, but I'll certainly consider them.

In which case there's the E400 but it's not as nice as the 6 series inside.

You'll struggle to even get kids in the back of a DB9 so I'd rule that out.

Not sure on US prices but the Aston Rapide is looking very good value in the UK at £35k, has plenty of room for 4 and is truly special.

For convertibles then I agree the Maserati GranCabrio is the most special and still very practical.

I was looking at the BMW 640d or the Merc E350d convertibles and after driving both decided on the Merc for two reasons, it was better value for money and the kids said there was more room in the back. It also has cup holders and a cubby hole in the back for their stuff, not that these made much difference but it was a nice to have and not something the BMW has. If I didn't have kids I would have gone for the BMW as I thought it drove a little better and looks a bit nicer......and without kids I'd have been able to afford it!

At the time to buy the same condition / age / mileage BMW over the Merc would have cost an extra £5k, just wasn't worth it.

So far the Merc has been perfect, solid and reliable, rapid enough in a straight line, not amazing in the bends but then neither of them were, they are GT cars after all.
