Gents, I'm looking at buying a 640d and have around £14k too spend. I've been chatting with a guy for a few weeks now who has a low mileage example up for £15k.
The car has full service history a load of Bill's but has had, for some reason, 6 owners before this guy. That will obviously put me down as owner number 8.
Ive used Parkers and knocked him down to the book price which is £13,100.
From what I can see it's been serviced by the same dealer for the 6 owners.
Any thoughts on why it would accrue that many owners in the first 6 years of its life?
Cheers

fk knows but would put me off. Multiple different drivers styles and all quick to get shot of it means they probably didnt care much for it.

I'm starting to think it's worth a punt at that price. The guy paid £17k for it 18 months ago, some hit that.
Its fully loaded, soft close doors, sunroof, hud, adaptive damper thingy...probably a demo car. Would something like that be passed around dealerships?

Wish there was a way you could trace the owner history

I find it a little odd that all 6 owners have had it serviced by the same dealer. Could it also have an underlying issue that’s caused each owner to move it on fairly quickly? Could of course be completely kosher but it would put me off.

Its a bad example but its okay because it has soft close doors.

Come on dude that many owners its going to be a bad example so id look for another one personally but each to their own.

I've just run it through Parkers again. It was valued at £12950 last Wednesday.
8 days later..£12450

£500 in a week. Looks like Covid is starting to hit the used car market

Is the service history real? It’s strange that all those different people live near to, and choose to use the same dealer

Just found a site called www.totalcarchecks.co.uk

They give you a free list of all the occasions the car has been advertised.

Just run this example through and it was bought and then moved on 4 times in 13 months only managing between 1k and 2k in mileage with each owner.

Defo a lemon

Extremely easy to fake.
A 'main dealer' printout will be more convincing to a potential buyer. Its been clocked and the printout done accordingly.
Check the last keepers address and compare it to that printout address..

OP - why are you even considering this car?

People will be asking the same questions when you come to move it on - with 8 former keepers.

Unless it was v high spec and a v low price I'd keep walking as theres lots of them around

It's off the list now. Considered it originally because of the low milage, superb spec and good price.
Upon some deep dive googling it became apparent it has had 5 different owners in 13 months. Each owner did around 1000 miles and moved it on.
The last guy had it little over a year.

Regarding there being loads about, are joking?
