2020 Audi A4/A6 Avant family wagon

I've been leasing for a while but considering getting off the leasing merry-go-round for at least one of our cars although I would consider another lease on the above too-I've seen the lease deals around on the A4 but would ideally like an engine with more poke.
Current car is a Volvo V90 CC. I'm wondering if size/space wise I could get away with the smaller A4. One of the main requirements is having enough space for in the rear for me to have the seat back and comfortable as I'm 6'4" to get one of the kids Isofix base in and also not be crammed in. Online reviews seems to suggest rear leg room is good.
95% of our journeys are local on A and B roads. My commute is/was 12 miles prior to Corona Virus. My wife's family are a 6 hour drive away in the north west of Scotland which is a trip we do about 3 times a year where having a comfortable load luger has came into it's own. Our youngest of 2 kids is now 1 so should hopefully only be needing a buggy soon which will make the amount of available space in the boot not needed to carry a full pram available.
The A4 seems to be the better rated car overall? and would probably be my choice if it ticks the box for practicality over the bigger A6. My local dealer is still closed but will get myself along to have a good look when they reopen.
Anyone with experience of either or both, advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Are you going to PCP or buy this?
If you're buying then go for an AUC model maybe 1-2 years old with a contribution attatched also try out the A4 depending on your partners size it might be too tight.
Both models share the same drivetrain electrics etc the A4 is seen as the better drive but both are decent, just go for the one that suits you best.

Had a 2016 A4 Avant as the family car (the 40TDi engine) as a 2 year lease. Boot was a decent size and shape and we rarely filled it, other than when transporting a full set of wheels for my track car. Good infotainment and comfortable. We had the comfort spec suspension as a no cost option on S-Line trim. The wife actually found it made her nauseous on a quick B-road because of the body roll. She much prefers the firmer sport set up on our A5 Sportback (40 TFSI).
The A5 boot by the way is a good size, though not quite as practical to load. Access into the rear not quite as good.
In terms of the engine the 180-odd PS diesel was fine. Not fast, but quick enough and very relaxing over a motorway haul. Now driving the 40 TFSI petrol in the A5 and its impressive - not fast but enough and smooth and at a steady low 70s cruise I’m now seeing 50mpg according to the computer.
Overall impressions are that the A4 and A5 are good family cars, though I’d like to try a 320i touring next.

You will be fine behind the wheel I’m 6’2” if I put the seat all the way back I cannot fully depress the clutch pedal. But...there is little room left for the rear passenger, I couldn’t for example sit behind myself if you know what I mean.
For 95% of your used I’m sure it will be ok but sounds like it will be a bit tight will family and all the gear that comes with a very young family.

Our Sport has the comfort suspension and 17” wheels, the drive is very relaxing. Boot space is fine.

Head/Legroom for driver is no problem, but a sunroof might compromise that a bit. Sit in one before buying if that's a concern.
Plenty of room for a couple of 12yr olds in the back, but possibly a 6-hour drive could be trickier. For UK holidays etc we tend to take Mrs SB's XC60 instead, but that's mostly because the dog and associated paraphernalia takes up a fair bit of room.

I've got a 66 plate A4 S-Line TDI saloon, it's a brilliant car if a touch dull, the interior is built like it's made granite and everything is just spot on in terms of ergonomics. I'm 6'2 but quite long legged and I have to pull my seat forward two or three clicks if I have anyone sat behind me, if I'm in a comfortable position there's only enough leg room for a child so should be fine for your current usage.
However if it is to be a keeper then I'd recommend going for the A6 or a Skoda Superb as you may find as the kids get older they may struggle for leg room.

Height on its own is not much to go on. I'm 6'1" but I've got into the driving seat of someone a few inches taller and found it's perfect for me. It's very hard to go on height alone as not everyone of that height has the same leg length, and indeed just individual preference on how straight you want your legs.

I've had lease cars since 2014 and signed up for each one blind without sitting in one in the flesh but if I'm going to buy I'll do more research. Tbh the more I look at finance and PCP figures the more I'm convinving myself of just going back to lease deals.

Like the idea of the new S4 but watching the reviews seems to be issues with the height and width of the S line seats seem to be a bit of an issue when you're taller too.

My older S4 has the regular 'sports' seats - it's the (now standard) supersports one which allegedly reduce rear legroom a little.
