Hi folks,

Per the title curious if anybody has tried shared ownership with a friend or family member?

Looking at a 996 gen 911 for £15k-£18k so a really well sorted C2 or C4 cab with IMS/RMS done; decent 996's look to have bottomed out so there's a good chance we'd see a gradual increase in value to offset running costs. It would be high-days and holidays car and my buddy is interested in going halves.

The idea would be as follows:

- Keep in a secure garage locally (Berks/Bucks).
- Agree in advance who wants to use the car when and if there's overlap we discuss and flip a coin if needs be!
- Servicing and maintenance costs are split but partly based on mileage used by each person.
- We agree a yearly mileage cap (say 6k) to maintain value.
- If it's pranged the driver at the time covers the excess.

To me it seems a 'safer' way into owning a 911, we'd each get to use the car on most of the occasions that we want to, we stand a good chance of the car increasing in value, and costs are split two ways.

Interested to hear peoples' thoughts.
Cheers

If you do a search on here there is a couple of old threads on this very subject, end result always seems to be the same...don't even go there!

Did it with two friends on some trackday cars it worked out okay but one of us always ended up buying out the others just because they'd want it more, all in all okay but I have heard of some shared ownership stories where things didn't go well.

I knew 2 brothers which shared a Ferrari! Can't remember which one now, probably a 360 as it was some time ago. Never heard of any issues, but then again I didn't know them that well. Probably helped that they worked together too so they could always 'swap over' there.

Their younger brother had an Evo when he was a teenager cry
