Advice on a fast spacious estate
Discussion
So with the arrival of my first child it is time to upgrade the motor to something a bit newer and safer (and faster) . My wife and I currently drive the cars we had when we got together 8 years ago, I have a 2000 Legacy GTB and she has a 2000 Legacy TX. Both are showing their age and may not be long for this world.
I should probably at this point say we live in New Zealand, hence the two imported Subbies. This obviously makes availability of certain things a little low.
We are both bike riders, skiers and general outdoorsies so with the addition of the little one we need something with at least as much of not a little more space as the old cars. Plus, wagons are cool anyway.
We have decided that our wants are different enough that we should just get a car each, she will get another Subaru, either an outback or an xv, great, I'm so happy for her
So I thought I wanted a C6 Audi Allroad 3.0tdi. But, if the wife is going to get a car we can use to get up the ski hill then I can be a little sillier, so what does the PH collective think I should get?
I have been looking at the C6 S6 (do I have the balls to deal with the v10 and possible repairs?)
E61 BMW 550i (again, do I have the testicular fortitude?)
F11 535i? Probably the safer bet but does it have the punch in looking for? Also there is only one in the country in my price range and it has cream interior which I don't particularly like and is not a good idea with the new born.
I don't really know much about Mercs but maybe a C class? Something that has been touched by AMG?
4wd would be good for the winter but rwd would be good all the rest of the time so I'm open to either, budget is 15-20k NZD (about half those figures in £). Anyone have any thoughts?

Were these available down under (as Holden maybe?).

Did VW bring the Passat R36 over there? Might be a little older but it’s an outstanding vehicle. Roomier than the C class without the out and out size of say the 5 series. Have a look if it isn’t one you’re familiar with!

Good morning (evening) to you too.
Not sure if they are all imported or some are nz new but there are R36s here. I had discounted them due to the haldex 4wd system not being as good as the Subaru or Audi setup. If I'm going to have 4wd I'd like it to work when the roads are covered in snow, if not then I'd like to have rwd.
