My brother has asked for my advice on a car for him and his partner, thought I would ask here as I received some great suggestions when looking for mine last year.

Criteria are as follows;

- Car will be driven only on weekends for shopping and trips away to the countryside, so we're looking at an absolute maximum of 5000 miles per year (likely far less) therefore mpg isn't a concern. They live in London so anything relatively local would be nice to avoid travelling too far to view, the car will be living on the driveway throughout the week.

- Petrol at this mileage but open to hybrid if they fall into the price bracket, no diesels obviously

- Must be automatic, as she's not a fan of manuals

- In an ideal world I think with him not being a spanner man, something reliable with a full service history, main dealer if possible, and minimal number of owners so we're looking for a cared for example (I appreciate that's a big ask)

- He's not a fan of estates or hatchbacks, so we're looking at saloons/coupes only

- A bit of power would be nice, I've a feeling he'd appreciate a wafter, something with a comfortable ride and nice thick tyres for mile munching on the weekend

- No huge mileage, so under 110-120k

- Budget of £5k, but realistically for the right car I've no doubt he'd pay an extra £1500. He's happy to budget around £1k a year for service/maintenance so on this basis something more expensive to purchase but less costly in this respect would be fine.

I'd thought to myself that Lexus would be a good start to look at based on the above, but I think all suggestions at this point would be welcome and even some slightly out of the box.
