Car Tax and the year it reduces

Hi all,
I'm looking at changing my car at the moment, looking for something I can daily and do the odd (4-5) track day in. The current winner and what I'll probably get is a Cayman.

Now, looking at the S variety, some have road tax at £325, these seem to be 15 year old cars, and the new than 15 yo cars have tax at £550'ish, I think. I think the tax drops at the 15 year mark, is that correct?

No - early 2006 is the cheaper rate and remains the cheaper rate. Later 2006 is the expensive rate and stays the expensive rate (think it's March or April when it changed?)

No - early 2006 is the cheaper rate and remains the cheaper rate. Later 2006 is the expensive rate and stays the expensive rate (think it's March or April when it changed?)

Yup, first registered on or after 23rd March 2006 will always pay the higher rate.

Why would you avoid a later car over something so trivial as £4 a week.

Especially when getting in Porsche’s. They can throw bills many multiples of that difference in the blink of an eye.

Get the best car you can for your buying budget regardless of tax I’d advise.

Trust me I get ya, however, SWMBO does not! I'll be getting the best car I can for the budget, but road tax will have to be a consideration she's an accountant after all.

, well, you know what they say, "happy wife, happy life", etc, etc. However, that's a good argument and as I'll only be insuring and taxing one car, instead of a daily and a track toy, it's a good shout.

If she's an accountant, surely she can see the financial benefit of buying on condition regardless of the tax bracket than immediately writing them off and running the higher risk of buying something more likely to throw a substantial bill.
