12 year old car with 9 previous owners
Discussion
Hi chaps.
Got my eye on a 2008 Audi TT 2.0TFSI manual. It has 81k miles and service history seems good. Price seems a bit steep but reckon theres room for negotiation.
The only issue is that the car has 9 previous owners. Current owner has had it since April and they say it was taken in part exchange against their BMW.
Would this put you off, or is it a case of buying on condition? It is a run of the mill base spec car and I would normally look elsewhere, but the chav in me likes the bodykit and alloys.

chavtastic body kit and 9 owners? yes they would both put me right off!
Ignoring the styling, it immediately makes me think it has been owned by a succession of chavs who have probably bought because it looks cool then ragged it senseless and realised it is really a pile of junk and moved it on.
You could buy on condition but only if you are confident you will find all the problems that a succession of owners have tried to hide.
I could be wrong of course, it could be a nice car. However, unless you really want that styling there must be plenty around that are much lower risk (and probably lower price).
imho, ymmv etc

The MOT history looks good, theres nothing standing out, not many advisories
Its failed once for:
Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively Both front wipers (8.2.2)
Nearside Front Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear rear brake binding (3.7.B.1)
Once for a bald tyre
And once for:
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
Last MOTed this May wheres theres a current advisory for rear tyres close to limit, hence why I think there's room for haggling (plus it's currently on Landsail tyres!)

How did you find this if you don't mind me asking, looks useful!
There are a few sites you can use to build up a better picture (due diligence) of a car before paying for a check:https://cazana.com/uk
https://www.caranalytics.co.uk/
https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/
Plus eBay & Facebook marketplace.
and finally, one which is worth paying for:

I wouldn't be too put off by the number of owners, given that it is a 2 door 2 + 2 seater and cars like that are often bought on impulse - then they quickly become impractical for various reasons.
I just bought a BMW Z4 that is 13 years old with 7 previous keepers!
Judge it purely by condition and history.
