Hit me with suggestions - Page 1 - Car Buying

So after spending (too many) years pottering around in various Dacias due to tight finances, house buying and divorce, I am finally looking to get back into a better motor! My problem now is that i had lost interest in cars over those years and my previous cars were older like Evo 5, Leon Cupra R mk1, Fabia Vrs mk1 etc....... now i'm not sure what more modern engines are any good, what is total drab to drive etc so came here for some inspiration!

Because of corona, my mileage will reduce from minimum 300 miles a week to max 200 as they are changing my contract to work at home more. It is just myself and my 2 kids, 7 & 9 years old.

My criteria is quite broad and flexible and in this order;
4 seats minimum,reliable, decent handling (90% A & B roads), 0-60 under 8 seconds (i'd take 9, i just need a bit of pace back in my life), not Evo-esque running/servicing costs as i've been there before, ideally not less than 30mpg, enough boot space for balls and cones or a couple of suitcases. (I coach the local kids football team).

I have about 6k to spend, could push to 7k for the right car. I don't have a shortlist as such at the minute but i'm not overly keen on an SUV style motor and i'm not interested in anything convertible as i will be looking to put bikes on the roof occasionally.

Do you have an age limit for choice? Because you could pick up a very nice FN2 Civic Type R for that money. As the owner of a diesel shed version can assure you boot size is massive. Or seats down and it becomes van like. Whether you'd want to work round the lack of rear doors with kids is another thought though!

Disclaimer, not driven one but seems that opinions on them have improved over the years.

No i'm not too bothered by age. I just want something that i can actually enjoy driving again and is also a decent size etc for the kids. I'm not too bothered about 3 door either because they are old enough to climb through and do their own belts etc.

thanks for the suggestions. I've never been a huge fan of vauxhall but the others are solid options. The saab looks pretty decent actually and not something i'd have thought of before. Do you know what they are like for parts and servicing etc?
