I bought a car 6 weeks ago from a large dealer. Paid for the car on finance.

The car has no v5 as yet. I’ve spoken to the DVLA and the current plate on the car is not registered to any car. They are saying I shouldn’t be driving it.

The dealership are adamant this is not the case. They are saying the car had a private plate on from new. And this is why it’s taking longer to get the v5 back from them and register me as the owner. They are saying cap and hpi is updated. It’s taking a long time due to the backlog with dvla. But surely they shouldn’t have sold this car to me?

Not sure who to believe or what to do.

Thank you for any help.

I'm no help I'm afraid, but I've got a new motorbike and still not showing as taxed.

DVLA still say "no vehicle details"

Been three weeks now.

The DVLA are not sorting any paper work out quickly at the moment. The automated stuff is going through just as fast as ever though.

The private plate story is most probably true but if it was done by post, it will be a pain as paperwork is in some cases over 12 weeks backlogged. The plate should have been done online, although that is no help to the OP now.
