Hi,

so I am after some advice on getting my next car. I have twin girls who are 3 and one baby incoming in 2 months!

I currently have a seat ateca fr on pcp. which I will return soon.

I have been looking at A6 avants, 5 series touring, golf r estate etc also been looking at 7 seat SUV like the karoq, Volvo xc90 and tiguan allspace r line.

Tbh what I am after is something with good power for me to enjoy when the kids aren't in the back. The SUV just does not do it for me. Great family car but incredibly boring..so that is why I was looking at estates..

but in terms of having 3 car seats in the car and 2 adults will an estate just be too tight If i go for a golf r estate..or will it have to be a much larger estate like an a6 avant..

The mrs really wants me to get a 7 seater SUV. Which i want to try and avoid tbh. All my previous cars were 300bhp plus before the kids so it has been a huge drop in performance for me

I see there are many high powered estates now..

Any advice would be nice to help me out get my head around what the best option may be from people who may have been in a similar situation

Thanks in advance

A early 2000s e63 that you could have in 7 seat format

I have three kids. Had a Golf R estate. You can’t get three car seats across the back and not rip at least one finger off each week wrestling to get the damn seatbelts done up. If we all went out together, then we used the 7 seater. I always put one in the back and two in the middle to avoid the onset of hostilities...

There is an inevitable series of conclusions here. You really need nine seats. One unit of seven and a second, separate, very different unit of two seats...

Yes I think getting 3 seats along one row is impossible without getting some slim bolster seats.

I was thinking when we do all go out then I can put one of 3 year olds in the front seat. As they have a front facing seat and push is back as much as I can.

tbh we are going to have to do that in the ateca for a month or 2 anyway.

Maybe a Skoda Superb 280, in Sportline guise. Personally, I didn' t like the auto or the steering so I bought an Insignia VX Line with the 200hp engine.
I traded a Fiesta ST so it's plainly much bigger and softer but my kids love it. Good value too.

No you cannot is the answer.

We have 3 and they don’t fit in an F10 535d

As such we went the route S Max it’s a really good car - though now after 3 years of it were seriously looking at Galaxy more space needed. Bikes going away stuff and it’s just better

really like the look the superb. But inside just looks like size of a hatchback. wonder if it would be a tight squeeze. will need to go see one of them and compare it to a a6 avant maybe.

You can get 2 full seats and a sideless booster across an Octavia and we tried 3 seats in a Superb which is even easier. We did 2000 miles down into France and back in my XF with 2 full seats and a booster in the middle. Depends on how big the kids are.

We now have a Disco 4 hehe

looks like I will have to look at a 7 seats minimum route then :-(

We did consider an XC90. If then it’s only 2 side isofix seats if you want to use the outside two isofix you cannot put a non isofix between them as it’s too narrow.

The Galaxy offers 300ltrs MORE than the SMax useful space.
Driving position on either is good it’s a nice drive to be honest - clearly no sports car but you want a good amount of torque as you’ll be carrying 5 up. We often (or pre virus) had 6 or 7 seats being used great dump car too.
Make sure you go for decent spec /model - oh and I’d recommend getting roof bars and roof box as soon as you get it OR tow hitch and then trailer for when you go off on holidays with trailer.

It’s the same car as an A6 and I think k the Skoda is bigger. The kodiaq comes in 7 seats too

First one did 300 miles before snapping its crank.

Second one seems better hehe

The missus has a C8 A6 Avant. Lovely car inside and out and the near perfect moderately upmarket family transport.

It is also Mogadon on wheels, so it’s just as well it has radar cruise. If you don’t want boring then it isn’t the car for you.
