MK7 190 celica
Discussion
Ran one for a while, 123k on the clock when I bought it but completely reliable, drove far better than I was expecting, economical etc
Only thing that let it down was the refinement on a motorway - it was very boomy.
I'd check the rear subframe - they rot for fun and expect to replace the tailgate struts

I had a Corolla T Sport as a daily. Same engine and gear box as the Celica.
Celica is going to be fine for city driving and few A roads. Wouldn't want to daily on a motorway as it sits around 3500-4000rpm.
Paintwork can be a bit tatty as it's rather thin, check the rear arches and the exhaust system. The boot struts seem to go on these and the keys are typical Toyota, seem to get flimsy and can easily snap out of the key plastic.
Otherwise they are reliable cars, Just need to maintain them and keep an eye on emissions as all early 2000s Toyotas had issues with cat convertors for some reason.

I had a T sport for 3 years and loved it. It was cheap to buy even 8 years ago and I didn’t lose much money on it. As others have said, motorway refinement is poor but that’s not why you buy one. Lift is a lot of fun and can be quite addictive although it can make you look and sound like a bit of a knob when you overtake!
Pretty reliable on the whole.
Check underneath for coolant leaks. The radiator is quite prone to stone damage and also the water pump can go. Most have undertrays fitted so you might not notice at first. Also the lift bolts, also known as flange bolts can snap. They cost peanuts to replace but they can often break whilst removing then need to be drilled out. So if you change them do it carefully! Tail gate struts come in different strengths I seem to remember with the strongest ones being for the GT model which has the massive spoiler. I think they are quite cheap and not hard to swap.
Celica club uk used to be a fantastic forum but I have heard it’s gone downhill a bit recently. Worth a look though as there were a lot of dedicated owners on there.
