Car Purchasing Stories - Nightmares
Discussion
Years and years ago my wife had a brand new VW Beetle 2.0 and enjoyed that for a few years.
One of the extras we specced was a six CD auto changer mounted in the boot.
Along the way I bought a VW Golf Mk IV GTI 1.8 Turbo and we both came to the conclusion that the Beetle would be a lot nicer performance with Turbo power. Which it was !
When the Beetle Turbo became available we signed up for it and one of the stipulations was to transfer the CD changer from the old beetle to the new beetle. This the dealer agreed to do on the pick up day.
Well we turned up with the old beetle, inspected the new beetle and left it with them for a few hours to install the CD changer.
On collection of the new car we noticed a dirty great scratch on the near side wheel arch in a very prominent position. Aargh!
The only realistic solution available was to swap the wheel arch with another new beetle in the same colour and then they realised they had to swap not just one wheel arch but both rear wheel arches and rear bumper and valance to ensure a proper colour match across the rear.
In fairness to the dealer, I think they did the correct thing under the circumstances. A new car order would have been another 12 weeks and we were satisfied with outcome with a generous amount of cash knocked off the purchase price for all the trouble.
The DP couldn't have been more apologetic and calmly gave us every option for rectification.
First class service in the circumstances but I expect someone got a severe b
king for that.

I said I'm not having that I wanted a silver one, he says you've got to take it we've registered it, tough I say not my problem.
Many hours later I agreed to take the car on the understanding that almost all of the optional accessories would be fitted - think of bull bars, spot lights, tow bar, expedition roof rack etc.
Any way it was an terrible car and I sold it very quickly and bought one of the first Skoda Vrs

Years ago I went to buy a Vauxhall Cavalier GSI2000 and in the advert amongst other things the seller said it had a remote start alarm, when I got there I asked him to show me how it works so he blipped the key fob twice and the engine started immediately the car lurched forward because it was still In gear and went straight into the back of his dad's Mercedes E class.
