Good evening, I was not sure whether to post this in the leasing thread or in here but I guess I am looking for advice on where I stand legally.

I have a lease car with Arval and I contacted them to arrange a collection date as the contract is coming to an end. I explained to them on the phone that I was trying to tie things in with my new lease car coming.

I was informed that a collection would be carried out for damage and that the vehicle would be collected within 3 days after that.

The car was scheduled for inspection today, I was told (by phone and email) that the inspector would contact me by text or call on the day (today) to give an estimated time. That time could be any time between 8am and 6pm.

At 4pm I had heard nothing so phoned Arval, the agent said she would get someone to call me back but nobody called so I called again and couldn't get through and they are now closed with still no contact from inspector.

Where do I stand legally? Can I email them and tell them I am cancelling insurance and that the car is now their problem?
The email states that insurance liability changes to them after inspection and before the collection.
I have my new car coming on Thursday so will be an issue as I don't want to be insuring two cars.
I have taken a day off work which has cost me money and Arval state that if a inspection fails due to an issue at my end then I will be fined £125 + vat.
I know mistakes and problems arise and inspections may be cancelled but to not be informed is unacceptable and to then say they will call me back to resolve it then not bother has wound me up ever so slightly.

Can I send an email saying the car is parked up and insurance is being cancelled and that it's their problem now including any damage charges they were thinking of throwing my way?
Should I push them for my expenses?
If I didn't have another car coming it probably wouldn't be the end of the world but this has thrown up a logistical issue.

Thanks

Who are you insured with?

Lots of insurers will allow temporary cover for a second vehicle at very little cost (I've paid about £1 per day before). Ok you have to pay (worth seeing if Arval will reimburse you) but a few quid to insure it for another week might be worth it for peace of mind?

Had exactly the same with them on my last lease. In the end they paid me the extra insurance I had to take out to cover as the new one arrived the day it should have gone.

OP, have you managed to contact them this morning?

Hopefully it was just them running late/breakdown or similar but not good that they failed to ring you back.

I had similar last September - BCA on behalf of MBFS missed 3 appointments to collect the car. It became apparent they just didn't have enough drivers and ended up contracting it out to a third party recovery company - I think they were just chancing their arm one of their drivers would become available to save them the expense of punting the job out.

The first inspection appoitnment was cancelled too, but they did inform me of that on the day.

I had an MBFS courtesy call about 10 days post collection and I mentioned the missed appointments - they said they'd look into it. I was over it once the car was out of the way and I didn't expect to hear any more, but they called me back a few days later, apologised for the poor service and the inconvenience and offered me £200 compensation which was nice of them.

Just off the phone to Arval and actually got a really helpful lady who apologized and said the inspection lot are messing them about and failing lots of inspections. They are now insuring the vehicle and collection is next Friday. Also said notes would be put on file and any damage charges may be looked at sympathetically. Can't say fairer than that really despite the inconvenience of it all.

Now on to sorting out my new insurance policy that didn't complete for some reason, however they still took the money. More time on the phone to sort this mess.

Same, its not a big issue op, just explain to the insurance company and they will sort it for you.
